White lies. Dark humor. Deadly consequences… Bestselling sensation Juniper Song is not who she says she is, she didn’t write the book she claims she wrote, and she is most certainly not Asian American—in this chilling and hilariously cutting novel from R.F. Kuang, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Babel.

June Hayward and Athena Liu could both be rising stars on the literary scene. But while the Chinese-American author Athena is celebrated for her novels, June ekes out an existence on the sidelines. No one is interested in stories by “normal” white girls, at least that’s how June sees it.
When June witnesses Athena dying in an accident, she steals Athena’s latest, just-completed manuscript, a novel about the heroic deeds of Chinese workers during World War I, in the heat of the moment.
June revises the work and publishes it under her new stage name Juniper Song. Because doesn’t this piece of history deserve to be told, and by anyone? But now June must guard her secret. And figure out how far she’s willing to go to do it.
