The collaboration expands The Peninsula’s Art in Resonance programme with an innovative partnership that brings together two institutions to support emerging contemporary artists.
The Peninsula, which has continuously championed ground-breaking art in its properties around the world for decades, has announced a new chapter in this long-standing commitment. From 2025, the legendary hotel brand will present a series of contemporary art installations in collaboration with London’s famous Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). It will begin with an exhibition at The Peninsula Hong Kong, which will open in time for Art Basel Hong Kong 2025.
The new collaboration, which brings together two iconic institutions known for their shared heritage and commitment to excellence, aims to raise the bar for world-class art experiences in the luxury hotel sector.
‘We couldn’t be more delighted to be working with the V&A, the world’s pre-eminent collective champion of the creative arts. In many ways, this partnership feels like a natural next step for our Art in Resonance programme as we strive to deliver a boundary-pushing art experience for our guests and the wider public.’
Gareth Roberts, Executive Director und Chief Operating Officer der Muttergesellschaft von The Peninsula, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited.
New reach for groundbreaking art
Through their multi-year collaboration agreement, The Peninsula and the V&A will work together to broaden public awareness of works of innovative contemporary art. The V&A will bring its curatorial expertise to the hotel group’s renowned Art in Resonance programme, providing a fresh perspective and viewpoint, as well as global access to emerging, early-career artists who will benefit directly from the programme.
As part of the collaboration, works created specifically for the V&A and various Peninsula locations will be commissioned, allowing the Art in Resonance projects to reach new audiences.
The first part of the collaboration will open at the end of March 2025 with a new ‘Art in Resonance’ installation at The Peninsula’s flagship in Hong Kong. As part of this exhibition, which will coincide with Art Basel Hong Kong 2025, The Peninsula and the V&A will present a newly commissioned work curated by Dr Xiaoxin Li, the V&A’s Curator, Asia Department.
This will be displayed in the hotel’s large lobby and complemented by two further new commissions by ‘Art in Resonance’ artists in a new exhibition that will show the hotel’s listed façade and classic interiors in a new light and will be directly accessible to guests and the public.
‘The creative vision of these selected artists perfectly epitomises the spirit of our new partnership. Working with The Peninsula to create a wider reach for these works reflects the V&A’s mission to promote design and creativity in all its forms, expand cultural knowledge and inspire makers, creators and innovators everywhere.’
Tim Reeve, Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer of the V&A.
