On the occasion of Louis Vuitton’s first Voyager show, which took place in Shanghai on 18 April, the Maison is now unveiling its extended collaboration with artist Sun Yitian. Known for her photorealistic paintings of toys and other mass-produced items, she has created an exclusive series that brings the Pre-Fall 2024-Collection to life in a colourful way. The collaboration spans ready-to-wear, leather goods, trunks, accessories and fragrances.
Sun Yitian, born in Zhejiang, China in 1991 and currently based in Beijing, has already exhibited her work in solo exhibitions in Paris, Berlin, Hong Kong and Shanghai. In her work, she explores the tension between “Made in China” mass products and artistic value, bringing objects that may initially seem unremarkable or of little value into the context of galleries and museums. For her first collaboration with a luxury house, she is now transferring her works to wearable pieces and adding the element of savoir-faire.
The collaboration with Sun Yitian has inspired three limited editions of Louis Vuitton‘s iconic fragrances – Spell on You, Imagination and Heures d’Absence – enriching the scent stories with playful decorations. For the first time, these Louis Vuitton perfumes are adorned with precious charms – an animal and the LV signature pendant, attached to a fine gold chain.
The pink rabbit adorns Spell on You, whose colour harmonises with Iris Pallida and evokes a romantic note with noble rose. The orange-coloured leopard is paired with Heures d’Absence, whose free-spirited bouquet consists of mimosa, jasmine and May rose. The yellow duck revitalises Imagination, a daring fragrance that explodes with an amber accord as well as citrus and Chinese black tea.
Each fragrance, composed by master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, comes in colourful packaging specially decorated by Sun Yitian with shiny LV Monogram. The Imagination fragrance also has its own travel bag in Reverse Monogram, decorated with the artist’s iconic duck.
