For the fourth year in a row, Jean Paul Gaultier is flying the rainbow flag with pride. This year’s Pride Limited Edition is a fantastic collaboration: Two naked torsos, adorned with just one brushstroke – the work of legendary New York artist and activist Keith Haring.
This year, the House of Gaultier is honouring the work of this important artist.
In 1989, the designer created a mural for the restrooms of The NYC LGBT Community Center that would become a powerful symbol:
‘Once Upon a Time’. This artistic tribute celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City, which heralded the beginning of the lesbian and gay rights movement and the rise of LGBTQIA+ rights. To pay tribute to this historic moment, the exclusive Pride Limited Edition 2024 brings the two legends together once again. And it’s more than a statement. It’s a landmark. A symbol. An identity. An ode to freedom, acceptance, self-confidence and the celebration of our differences.
‘In addition to providing life-saving programs and services to all LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers, The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center (The Center) is also a vibrant hub for LGBTQIA+ culture in New York City, showcasing a wide range of artistic expression,’ said Dr Carla Smith, CEO of The Center. ‘We are honoured that our long-time partner Jean Paul Gaultier is reproducing and celebrating our permanent art installation “Once Upon a Time” by Keith Haring to bring it to a new audience.’
DAS PARFUM
The Pride fragrance is an eau de toilette for all genders and has awakened a sense of courage and boldness over the past four years. A poem of perfumery that reminds us of the beauty of inclusion and the freedom to be ourselves. For the exclusive Pride Limited Edition 2024, the legendary torsos of Classique and Le Male envelop a fragrance that has become a bold and challenging signature. A fragrance with fresh citrus notes and yuzu, a flirtation with orange blossom and neroli, a seductive provocation with musk.
THE FLACONS
This year, the flacons of Classique and Le Male are shedding their covers and dressing this signature fragrance in immaculate white. The exclusive Pride Limited Edition 2024 breaks with convention. The naked bottles are tattooed with elements of Keith Haring’s mural and reveal the beauty of their bodies. A work of art in itself, where street art meets pop art – under the title: ‘Nothing to Hide’. It is a cheerful version – suitable for any audience – of the original work ‘Once Upon a Time’. There is nothing to hide. And everything to ask for. Just the way you want it.
THE CANS
This year’s cult box of Pride Eau de Toilette combines the colourful touch of Gaultier with the genius of Keith Haring. Sensual, erotic, exciting scenes envelop the new interpretations of the flacons. The ornate metal boxes celebrate sexual freedom and proud emancipation.
THE FRAGRANCE
The Pride Limited Edition 2024 exudes a boundless trail of floral, woody and proud fragrance. A radiant rainbow that demands one thing above all: the freedom to be ourselves.
‘This exclusive limited edition fragrance is reinvented every year and is always a favourite. Based on Gaultier’s signature note, neroli, we delight the senses with blood orange, enhanced with musky light woods. An irresistible fragrance that knows no gender: only the glory of simply being (proud of) who we are.”- Nathalie Cetto and Quentin Bisch, perfumers for Jean Paul Gaultier.
The partnership is in collaboration with Artestar, a global licensing agency and creative consultancy that represents high-calibre artists, photographers, designers and creatives.
