There is an exciting development in the fashion world, and one brand in particular stands out: HARRI. This up-and-coming fashion label promises to make a big splash in the coming season.
Founded by Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai, a 29-year-old designer with Indian roots based in London, HARRI has already attracted widespread attention this year. The most notable moment was when renowned singer Sam Smith wore a customised piece from HARRI’s collection at the Brit Awards. The eye-catching creation consisted of a black latex full-body suit with strikingly voluminous arms and legs.
HARRI stands out not only for its avant-garde designs but also for the artistic approach of its founder. Harikrishnan Pillai began his journey in fashion in Kerala, India, gaining valuable experience working with New Delhi-based designer Suket Dhir before completing his formal education at the prestigious London College of Fashion.
The brand has made a name for itself by focusing on theatrical explorations of proportions, often utilising unconventional materials such as rubber. HARRI’s signature inflatable trousers are a testament to deliberately extravagant shapes. Yet the collections are skilfully balanced with more understated cotton and beaded pieces, demonstrating the impressive range of Pillai’s design skills.
The recognition by the British Fashion Council, which awarded HARRI the Newgen Scholarship for the second time this year, emphasises the relevance and influence of the brand in the fashion industrie
With a recently unveiled third collection, HARRI once again proves that the brand is pushing the boundaries of fashion. Harikrishnan Pillai’s ability to seamlessly blend the extravagant with the subtle makes HARRI a standout in the ever-evolving world of contemporary fashion and a brand to keep an eye on for the coming season.
