Nature as a Mirror of the Soul
In the short film “Guerreras” (“Warrior Women”), we follow three young Mexican women – Evelyn, Alicia, and Frida – as they reconnect with themselves and their heritage through the raw and sacred landscapes of Oaxaca.
In deep harmony with nature, they find strength in listening to their bodies, exploring transformation and healing while giving voice to generational trauma caused by gender inequality and ancestral silence.
A Film About Survival, Spirituality, and Female Empowerment
Dutch visual artist Lotte van Raalte first met the women during an art residency in Oaxaca. Inspired by their personal stories, she created Guerreras as her directorial debut – a poetic reflection on living in synergy with nature and the body.
Built from intimate interviews about spirituality, identity, roots, and femininity, van Raalte returned to Oaxaca to visually translate their philosophy into film. Through experimental sound design and allegorical imagery, Guerreras becomes a deeply moving narrative of resilience and reconnection.
