1 of the 100 most beautiful…
Hotels in Europe is situated right next to east Tyrol’s largest skiing area, the Grossglockner resort Kals-Matrei. The Gradonna****s Mountain Resort Chalets & Hotel not only stands out due to its exclusive location but also because of its superb architecture. But that’s not all.
Modern mountain village
The Großglockner resort Kals-Matrei, on the southern side of the “Glockner”, is East
Tyrol’s largest skiing area. The four-star superior resort that allows for a totally new kind of skiing holiday is situated at 1,350 metres altitude, right next to the Blauspitz downhill run to Kals: The Gradonna Mountain Resort Châlets & Hotel is laid out like a modern mountain village. The hotel offers spacious rooms and exclusive tower suites as well as an approx. 3,000 sqm spa complex. The châlets for four to eight people with a spacious living room and small wellness area and sun terraces are scattered around the hotel.
All the buildings were built out of solid wood from local forests. In the resort there is a sports shop and ski hire, a ski school and ski pass service, a free beginners’ nursery slope, a cross-country trail and direct link to East Tyrol’s largest skiing area. Thanks to the delicatessen shop with products from regional farmers, châlet residents can self cater or book half-board at the hotel, upon request, which is of course also based on regional products.
A new quality standard
You can click on your bindings right in front of the hotel or châlet door and after a quick schuss down to the bottom station in Kals, 15 modern cable cars and lifts take old and young snow acrobats up to an altitude of 2,500 metres where snow is guaranteed.

You can find open slopes without and trees under the Cimaross peak as well as knee-deep freeriding terrain and fun parks. Downhill skiers start their fitness test on East Tyrol’s longest downhill run to Matrei or on the exclusive carver slope and downhill run to Kals. Just before the bottom station you can then swerve off and take a pit stop at your new holiday home.
In the hotel the 3,000 m² large spa, the largest wellness complex in East Tyrol by the way, builds up your fitness for the next day’s skiing.
Wellness
Children can also benefit from the same in the wellness area of Gradonna Mountain Resort: They have their own pool with slide as well as a family sauna and steam bath. Adults and young people aged 15 and above also have their own indoor pool. Athletes can work out in the fitness centre with mountain views, in the gym, meditation and yoga room or reach for the stars in the boulder and climbing room.
In terms of beauty and relaxation, the Gradonna****s spa relies on the power of the Alps: The Tyrolean Alpienne product range stands for beneficial massages with St. John’s wort, arnica, marmot oil, honey or Swiss stone pine. Vinoble is a beauty range from Styria, which is based on the anti-oxidative, re-mineralising and moisturising active ingredients of organic substances. Babor also works with natural and luxury cosmetics based on edelweiss, glacier water or meadowfoam seed oil.
First-class dining
The Gradonna also easily maintains its position in the premium league in terms of dining: Whether you’re a hotel guest or châlet self-caterer, Michael Karl cooks first-class cuisine for guests in the restaurant.
It’s no surprise that Karl has already been awarded 4 toques during the course of his career.
His cooking is modern and light – East Tyrolean specialities and Mediterranean influences are fused with Asian ingredients. All the recipes are reinterpreted. A true explosion for the senses awaits you with a great love of details and natural products. The wine cellar stocks fine wines from all over the world, qualified sommeliers take you through the huge choice and if you fancy a cigar the same awaits cigar fans perfectly stored in the cigar lounge.
