Gestalten // Advent calendar, day 14

Door number 14 opens gently and leads quietly into a room of silence, where Scandinavian design philosophies meet Japanese wisdom. The Danish Norm Architects have been studying the Far East for a long time and have incorporated their findings into numerous projects. Together with Gestalten Verlag, they have published Stillness, a book that we are giving away at the quietest time of the year.

Stillness is a coffee table book – or should we say tea table book? Anyone who opens this book is invited to make a cup of tea, perhaps light a candle and contemplate it in a moment of tranquillity. When you pick up the book with its textured hardcover and harmonious photo, you are drawn both visually and haptically into the mindful world that awaits you when you open it. Carefully selected photographs by Norm Architects founder Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen are accompanied by essays, quotes and texts on the architectural projects, creating a balanced overall concept.
