Back then, Thomas took over his parents’ business and swapped his training as a bricklayer and the odd reggae, goa and drum n’ bass festival for grapes and wine. Together with his wife, they combine traditional viticulture and creative marketing ideas – with success.
The perfect location.
Purbach on Lake Neusiedel is the home of Strommer wine – created by parents Robert and Walpurga and handed down to Junior Chef Thomas, his wife Tina and whirlwind Aimee. The area around Purbach offers perfect conditions for growing grapes due to the unique and mild climate and the different soil conditions and shape the taste of Strommer wines. The vineyards are located along the Leitha Mountains and the western shore of Lake Neusiedl. The soils of the vineyards on the slopes of the Leitha Mountains are characterized by shell limestone and slate, while in contrast the vineyards at the foot of the slopes of the Leitha Mountains have a higher clay content.
Everything the wine heart desires.
Strommer wines offer a wide range of wines, according to the motto “Where wine is missing, the charm of life dies”. There are red wines from the classically developed Blaufränkisch, fruity Zweigelt and dark berry Syrah, quaffable St. Laurent, Pinot Noir with a strong character to powerful and aroma-deep cuvees developed in barrique barrels. There are also all sorts of white wines to discover: the drinkable Riesling or the peppery Grüner Veltliner, fruity varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Muskat Ottonell or powerful Chardonnays aged in barriques.
More than just wine.
Creative thinker Thomas is full of beans, though, and with a little mischief on his mind, he launched Tom’s Spritzer in 2019 – once with white wine and once with rosé. Always available in the 24/7 take-away store directly in the Kellergasse. There you will also find ‘Der Heurige’ – a 150-year-old vaulted cellar with a guest garden, which was purchased and restored by the Strommer family in 1995. Guests will find food like grandma’s and can simply let go of the stress and hustle and bustle of everyday life for a moment. And if you do want to stay longer, you can stay overnight in the guesthouse – including breakfast and the Neusiedlerseecard.
