Lines, strokes and geometry remain a constant in the joint carpet designs of Ronan Bouroullec & Nani Marquina. Doblecara is the latest of several collaborations between the two designers – with the aim of combining the ancient technique of kilim with the modernity of Bouroullec’s designs.
This time, Ronan Bouroullec has chosen to reflect the spirit of geometry through subtle linear and interrupted strokes that end in a blurred point, creating a sense of movement in the eye of the beholder. The choice of technique was crucial to the development of Doblecara: for the first time, the ancient kilim and its reminiscences of the past were combined with hand-knotting to create the lines, giving the carpet a radiant power and a moving rhythm.
The great know-how of the design teams and the relentless drive to always go one step further have made possible the creation of this collection with a double meaning. Doblecara has become a reversible rug whose two sides can be admired, the “B” side being the most subtle and delicate, while the “A” side shows the straightforward design at its best.
The collection is made from hand-spun Afghan wool. The rustic look and the irregularities of the wool combine to create a unique rug that is a testament to the beauty and authenticity of the craftsmanship.
Available in four sizes and three positive-negative colour combinations: Black-Ivory, Ivory-Black, Ivory-Red, Ivory-Ivory.

He is awarded the Grand Prix du Design by the city of Paris. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s designs span several fields of expression, from craftsmanship to mass production, and have gradually found their way into our daily lives.
