The new series “Wellmania” on Netflix features the well-known comedian and Instagram star Celeste Barber, who satirically mocks the wellness industry while advocating for female empowerment.
Although Barber is not well-known in many parts of the world, she is highly popular in Australia and the USA, with her stand-up tours quickly selling out and her books topping the bestseller lists. As of March 2023, she has an impressive 9.4 million followers on Instagram.
“Wellmania” takes aim at the exaggerated health mania in society and the wellness industry, with Barber delivering her usual entertaining take on the topic of female empowerment.
The series follows Liv (Barber), a food critic and human tornado who receives the diagnosis of “catastrophic health” and decides to completely overhaul her life. She plunges headfirst into a radical wellness journey, determined to return home healthy at any cost.
